Bhupendra Singh
In his work Bhupendra typically tries to separate the forms from their meaning or identity. His main focus is the white space that is left in between shapes and forms. He experiments on the canvas to give birth to new forms and design in an emergent and spontaneous way.
“For ’BRIDGE2WORLDS’ project I drew on two aspects of Indian cinema and named them Kaleidoscope (LOVE) and White Sciography (FRAME). Kaleidoscope is a toy which for me was the very first film full of shifting colours. Bollywood is also like this a mesmerising feast of colour constantly shifting and attracting the observer. The second experience I drew from is my memory of white sciography, whilst in the remote forests of India; the moving figures behind the white cloth vividly relayed the stories for the people living there. It made me realise our cinema is not limited to the lens, the screen, the machine; as colour, versatility of form, variety of frames and depth of light are inherent in many forms of theatrical staging throughout India from the villages to cities. “
He has achieved a Masters in Fine Art. He has taken part in many group and solo shows throughout India.
