Radha Binod Sharma was born in Kamalpur, Tripura, India in 1964. His mother a well-known Indian classical Manipuri dancer cultivated his interest in art from an early age. As a young child he witnessed the 1971 Pakistan/Bangladesh war and grew up with the victims and refugees which radically changed the social, economic, political, and cultural landscape. As a result, his earlier paintings focused on ‘life on the edge’ and the struggles of humans which has been a constant theme throughout his work to the present.

Latterly, his work has shifted to a more philosophical vein where he conveys the richness and depth of the life, heartfelt memories and true meaning and desires. ANUBHAV or “the sea within” explores the energetic field primarily within which nurtures, transforms and centred on uplifting life for us all. This has spearheaded many projects in India and UK.

In his most recent project called DHARA (Soil) he chose the central theme of women nude figures. This focus depicts his signature style which is to unveil the inner layers of existence at the conscious and subconscious levels. As Radha Binod states;

“Within each work I am trying to compose the power of nature in the human body through depicting inner relaxed state, open expression, total surrender, and deep wisdom mirrored in natural forces such as Mount Fuji. There is nothing hidden, totally transparent, both inside and outside. To witness this natural aspect in another is to also to ignite the possibility of generating this natural power in ourselves.”

Radha Binod studied painting at the Kala-Bhavana, Viswa Bharoti University, Santiniketan 1989 and studied for his Masters in Creative painting in the Faculty of Fine Arts, M S University, Baroda 1991.

He has achieved several awards namely the Kanoria Studio Fellowship, the Elizabeth Greenshields Foundation Grant in 1992, Canada. In 1994, he received two awards-the Charles Wallace Trust Grant, London, and the prestigious Delfina Studio residency. He has also exhibited his art worldwide and has held many solo and group shows. His work has been successfully auctioned in Sotheby’s New York, Rosebery’s Auction House, UK and Osian’s India. Radha Binod lives and works in London.
