In 1992 Ratan Krishna Saha achieved his post-graduation qualification in sculpture from the Fine Arts Faculty, Baroda. After his education he travelled widely looking for an opportunity to establish himself as a sculptor. For him the figure of the bull was  not just decorative or the representations of the ‘male power’ (as bulls in art often do), they are the lost self of the migrant in the big city, raring to go but tamed by the environment.

“Power is the most dominant factor in today’s world. It has affected human life

in every way whether political, social, economical, or spiritual. An urge to depict power led me to choose ’’ bull ’’ as a universal symbol of power. In my bull sculpture, I am consciously trying to carve these two contradictory characters. I am using different forms such as lyrical, textural, and different postures such as dancing, worshiping to indicate the different facets of its personality and character, but in every form and posture this bull has always remained for me a universal symbol of power”.

Ratan lives and works in Mumbai.
