Fernanda de Melo

Fernanda is a Goan visual artist. Her works are mainly figurative with women usually being her central theme. While she works in both painting and ceramics, her paintings feature a vibrant combination of oil, acrylic, oil pastels, oil stick, and Indian ink. She explores the themes of love, passion, strength, and the experiences of mothers raising children with special needs. Her works are heavily influenced by the Goan culture and traditions, and her deep rooted love for Goa and its people.

My paintings are part of my ongoing set of works on the theme ‘Belonging’, which focuses on human relationships and the longing to be seen, to be accepted, loved and cared for.

‘Together’ is a painting of a husband and wife in a warm loving embrace on their wedding anniversary.

‘Spanning The Chasm’ is about bridging, through faith, the distance one has brought about and allowed to grow between oneself and the Creator - Connecting the human to the divine.

‘The Yearning’ is a painting of a young housewife in her home garden, taking a short break from the hustle of daily housework, admiring and plucking flowers to place at the altar at home, while at the same time she is filled with thoughts and longing for her husband who works away from home.
