Workshops and Downloadable Resources
Collage Arts were thrilled to deliver 18 workshops with 11 different school and community groups involved in this project. These included learning and inspiration workshops delivered by Steve Medlin and Rocio Rodriguez-Inniss to begin the artistic process. They explored the immense contributions the Windrush generation have made and continue to make to British society, and the children’s responses to this through drama games, dialogue and art-making. These workshops culminated in the creation of inspiration mood boards using imagery from the National Archives, Autograph’s ‘A Journey to Hope’ exhibition, Althea McNish’s textiles, Deanio X’s contemporary art responses to migration, and images of the Empire Windrush, real and illustrated.
These mood boards and the emergent themes inspired a second set of art-making workshops delivered by artists Asia Giulliani, Roselind Hunsel, Michelle Inniss, Lydia Newman. They worked in different media with different groups with children as young as 5 to aged 17, as well as adults in our launch event community workshop, creating work with textiles, clay, paint, drawing and collage.
